CARERS STRATEGY IMPLEMENTATION GROUP

Carers Strategy Implementation to focus on carers' needs in Hull

Following release of a report looking at the provision of services for carers in Hull, the ‘Carers’ Strategy Implementation Group Hull’ was formed to implement the recommendations and move this important piece of work forward.

Greg Harman, Carers’ Centre Manager, is on the group along with senior managers from the Council and NHS Hull plus other representatives from voluntary sector organisations such as Age Concern, Rethink and Hull Churches Home from Hospital and most importantly of all, carers too.

The group contains several carers who offer their time freely and identify issues of concern to carers and make sure that these issues are taken into account in plans to develop new carer support services.  The Group meets once a month.

A list of the members of the group can be downloaded from here.

Developments

Already there have been several quality developments as a direct result of the group's work. A new Locality Carers Coordinator was appointed to be employed by Hull Churches Home from Hospital paid for by NHS Hull to improve carer registration and support within G.P. surgeries plus a team of four new Carer Support Workers were recruited by Hull City Council to work on identifying carers who have not been supported in the past, many of whom in fact not realising that they are a carer with rights.

Carers' Centre Hull have recruited an Outreach Development Worker to liaise with the Hull City Council team and the Locality Carers Coordinator to deliver support and guidance within G.P. surgeries across the city, so collectively providing an integrated, substantial and improved service to Hull carers.

Thanks to funding made available by NHS Hull and supported by Hull City Council, Carers' Centre Hull coordinated a cross-sector, multi-agency schedule of events for Carers Week 2010 which began on Monday 14th June 2010. Yet another achievement of this network of agencies and carers.

Courses for Carers

Many carers have said they would like to take part in courses, maybe to learn new skills, or even to spend a little time with other people who have similar interests. It could be anything from Pottery to Pilates, there is a huge range.

The CSI Group have been in touch with Hull City Council Adult Education Department and they have given us details of the range of courses they are running, along with costs. Click here to view the range of courses available.

For a lot of carers, the courses will be free and for many more there will be reduced course fees. Click here for course fees.

Please ring the Adult Education on the numbers shown or us at the Carers' Centre if you would like any more information.
